Sometime ago I was signed up (i.e. by someone else ... not me...) to do a 10k obstacle endurance race. I had planned to make us "team" t-shirts and bought a couple of plain white cheap t-shirts from Tesco (2 for £7 - Bargain and they seem pretty good quality too!) Luckily as the race got nearer... we got the news it had been cancelled. Obviously I was gutted - honestly!!
So when this challenge came up I decided it was time to make the t-shirt. The image I decided to use is called Jogger Mae from Some Odd Girl. I picked her as she looks a little like me...
I do run, well I Jog, a few times a week so I will be able to wear the top when I go out but I swear I have never worn shorts as short as Mae.
Step 1 - I used Heat transfer paper that I bought from Amazon. It was really simple to do. I printed the image onto the special paper and then cut really close around the edge of the image.
Step 2 - is to iron the image on to the T-shirt. To do this - you have to use a really hot iron with no steam at all. So I turned the iron on and left it to dry all the water away. I put a cotton tea towel between the image and iron just to make sure I didn't burn it. It took a while for the image to transfer and I just had to keep trying a little corner to check. But if it hadn't - I simply kept ironing.
Step 3 - Once it had cooled down I peeled the paper away and then went about colouring the image with Promarkers.
I did try to colour an image prior to ironing on to the t-shirt but the ink removed the transfer material.
Once the Image was on the fabric - the transfer material creates the barrier that stops the alcohol markers from bleeding into the cotton. The ink doesn't blend as well as on paper so I didn't use as many different colours to shade the image. The ink also went a bit tacky and took a little longer to dry than on paper.
I coloured Mae in the same colour pro/flexmarkers that I wear... yep my Trainers are Pink & Orange!
Skin - Antique white, Blush, Soft peach & Coral
Hair - Chestnut, Walnut, Cinnamon, Cocoa & Raw Sienna.
Pink bits on Top and trainers - Carmine, Magenta & Hot Pink
Orange bits - Halloween, Bright orange & Orange.
I'd like to enter this creation into the following challenges -
Not just Cards challenge
I hope you like this idea - Take a look a the other creations on at the challenge. Just makes you think of all the other ways Promarkers can be used.
See you soon,
